Hydraulic capacity of a channel is affected by sediment deposition. Decrease in channelcross-section area, changes in shear stress and velocity distributions are adverse effectsof sediment deposition. The self-cleansing criteria are utilized for channel design toreduce the sediment deposition. This study, focused on the sediment transport in openchannels with particular reference to the limit of deposition condition. The data withwide ranges of pipe size, sediment size and sediment volumetric concentration are usedto Generalized Regression (GR) technique for the modeling. The developed model iscompared to classical regression models existing in the literature. Considering theresults obtained based on model performance criteria, it is concluded that GR modeloutperforms classical regression models. It is determined that the GR is a reliablealgorithm in terms of calculating particle Froude number. It is concluded thatconventional regression models generally overestimate particle Froude number for limitof deposition condition of sediment transport.
