چکیده مقاله:

Pest control in many storage systems depends on fumigation with either methyl bromide or phosphine. The use of methyl bromide is being restricted because of its potential to damage the ozone layer. Manyalternatives have been tested to replace methyl bromide fumigation for stored product and quarantine uses.During recent years, some plants have been receiving global attention and their secondary metabolites havebeen formulated as botanical pesticides for plant protection since they do not leave residues toxic to theenvironment, have lower toxicity to mammals and medicinal properties for humans. In this research fumiganttoxicity of essential oil 1,8-cineole was studied against 1-7 days old adults of the Confused flour beetle,Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val.(Col.: Tenebrionidae). Bioassays were carried out at 27±1 ºC and 60 ±5% R. H. under dark condition adopting a complete randomized block design with five concentrations ofessential oil were tested in four replications with 20 adult insect in each replication. Mortality of adults wasrecorded at 24 h. The LC50 and LC95 value was 59.27 and 160.6 μl/L air respectively. A direct relationshipbetween mortality rate and dose was detected. The findings of current study suggest that essential oils couldalso be used as insecticide against the stored product pests.
