INFLUENCE OF MGO ADDITION ON MICROSTRUCTURE AND PROPERTIES OF REACTION SINTERED ALUMINIUM TITANATE

Effect of MgO addition on reaction sintering of aluminium titanate was investigated using equimolar Al۲O۳ and TiO۲ after firing the samples at ۱۴۰۰ C for four hours. Results showed that MgO addition enhanced the sintering process by magnesium aluminates formation, which led to lower porosity and improved densification of the samples. Physical and mechanical properties showed that samples containing ۵ wt% MgO was the optimum composition.
