Knee Osteoarthritis(OA) remains one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders. lately different articlespublished that the genicular nerves radiofrequency (RF) ablation is an effective and safe remedial method forintractable chronic knee osteoarthritis (OA) pain.Diagnostic genicular nerve block (GNB) with local anesthetic before making decisions performing RF ablationis helpful and conducting.Ultrasound is an effective, safe, non-radiative, outpatient, and easily applicable guidance method for genicularnerves block and RF in pain relief and functional improvement in Knee OA patients.Ultrasound-guided genicular nerves block, when combined with a local anesthetic and corticosteroid, canprovide short-term or in alcoholic neurolysis can provide long- term pain relief. Researchers reportedsuccessful pain relief by block and ablation of the three branches of the genicular nerve [superior lateral (SL),superior medial (SM), and inferior medial (IM) genicular nerves]. These three nerves were selected becausethey pass the periosteal areas connecting the shaft of the femur to the bilateral epicondyles and the shaft ofthe tibia to the medial epicondyle. It has been shown that genicular articular branches innervate the knee joint .In the ultrasound-guided genicular nerve block technique, these three nerves were selected for the samereasons. Visualization of the genicular nerves is difficult, but genicular arteries can be used to help more easilyidentify the location of the genicular nerve, as the arteries, which are well visualized, travel alongside thegenicular nerves. Genicular arteries can easily be revealed on ultrasound (US), resulting in increased successof nerve targeting. In the recent years, ultrasound guidance has been increasingly adopted by interventioniststo perform various injections. Because its ability to visualize soft tissue, vessels, and nerves, this guidancetechnology appears to be a better option than fluoroscopy for interventions.
