Textbooks play a major role in the realm of language teaching and learning particularlyin formal contexts i.e. schools. Evaluation of textbooks is essential to improve theircorrespondence to the learners' needs and goals. This study aims to investigate to what extentProspect ۲ (the eighth grade English textbook in Iran's junior high school) follows principles andtechniques of CLT. To do so, ۵ females and ۵ males between ۲۵_۴۰ years old from ۴ to ۲۰ yearsof teaching experience took part in this study. It was a qualitative study and a structuredinterview was conducted. The Findings revealed that Prospect ۲ in fields of content andlanguage skills does not follow the principles of CLT. CLT method emphasizes on theintegration of four skills. Although Prospect ۲ involves all the four skills but it pays lessattention to reading and writing skills. Another principle of CLT that ignored in this book isusing authentic materials because the content of Prospect ۲ represents Iranian culture instead ofEnglish.
