چکیده مقاله:

Language is a communication tool which has an important role in human’s life. Along with the era progress, language usage will be developed, and it sparks the emergence of slangs. Many slang words contain rude and impolite meaning. In this article, the researcher discusses the analysis of slangs in Limitless movie, and relates it with violation of politeness maxims and then analyzes the translation of the slangs. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of slang that are used by the characters of the movie, and to find out whether all slangs have a potential to violate maxims of politeness. Another purpose of this study is to analyze whether the maxim violation affects the translation or not. Furthermore, the researcher attempts to indicate whether applying maxim violation benefits the translation or harms it. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative method and applies Leech’s theory of politeness maxims in the analysis. The researcher finds ۴۶ slang words or phrases that used by the characters in the movie. To avoid repetition and redundancy, he only selects ten words to be analyzed. The result of the analysis, shows two types of slang that are used in the movie. They are vulgarity and offensiveness, and informality and intimacy. The researcher also finds that both types of slang violate three of the six Leech’s politeness maxims which are approbation maxim, modesty maxim, and agreement maxim. In the translation’s discussions, according to Persian Language experts and researcher’s intuition, it is illustrated that there are three kinds of translation which have provided by the translator. The first one is considered a decent translation because it could convey all aspects of the English context. The second one is a semi-decent translation since it could convey some aspect of the English context. Finally, the third one is not a decent translation, because it cannot convey all aspects of the English context.
