چکیده مقاله:

Introductions: Handovers can be considered the “Glue” that holds the health care continuum together. Patient handover, a high-risk often overlooked activity, plays an integral part in safe patient care. In an emergency department (ED), patient handover occurs multiple times a day including when patients are transferred to the ED by ambulance, from pre-hospital to hospital care. Poor cooperation between pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency is considered as one of the main causes of high mortality rate of road traffic accidents in the developing countries and one of the biggest preventable challenges. Method: SID, Iran Doc, Google Scholar, PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Web of Science databases were reviewed using the keywords "Handover", "emergency nurses", "pre-hospital emergency”. All papers were examined according to the purpose of the study. The search for articles was conducted during the period ۲۰۱۵-۲۰۲۳. Of the ۸۵ studies examined and selected, ۱۴ were evaluated and analyzed using the inclusion and exclusion criteria for data extraction. Results: Among the ۱۴ reviewed articles, it was determined; There are many challenges in the delivery of our patients between pre-hospital and hospital emergency ward and various factors are effective in this field like overcrowding of the emergency department, the lack of manpower, the absence of empty beds in the ICU departments, the lack of space for the ambulance park, the lack of wheelchairs and stretchers at the entrance of the emergency department, and the most important one is not making the necessary arrangements before transferring the patient to the hospital by pre-hospital dispatch. Those problems make poor cooperation of the emergency personnel in admitting the patient. Conclusion: this review shows the clear need for improvement in emergency handovers. To achieve this, it is essential to start by standardizing the concept of emergency handover using available literature to describe and confirm the ideal method for an effective and safe performance.
