چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of simultaneous uvulopalatoplasty and nasal surgery in patients with moderate obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome. Materials and Methods:We studied ۴۸ patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome and nasal breathing disorders. The ۱st group of ۲۰ patients underwent septoplasty and volumetric tissue reduction of inferior turbinates and the ۲nd group of ۲۸ patients underwent septoplasty, volumetric tissue reduction of inferior turbinate, uvulopalatoplasty. Results:In the ۱st group, the pre-operative apnoea-hypopnea index median decreased from ۲۲.۱ ep/h to ۱۴.۹ ep/h after the surgery. Pre-operative median of nasal airflow volume grew from ۱۶۷.۰ cm۳ to ۶۰۹.۵ cm۳ post-operatively and the loudness of snoring decreased from ۲.۷±۰.۲ to ۰.۷±۰.۲. In the ۲nd group, the apnoea-hypopnea index median decreased from ۲۰.۴ ep/h to ۵.۳ ep./h. The pre-operative median of nasal airflow volume grew from ۱۸۹.۵ cm۳ to ۵۱۹.۵ cm۳ post-operatively and the  loudness of snoring improved from ۲.۶±۰.۲ pre-op to ۱.۱±۰.۲.Conclusion: Patients with moderate obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome and nasal breathing disorders are advised to have nasal surgery combined with uvulopalatoplasty for a better outcome.
