A sociological look at the challenges and opportunities of social media And it’s impacts on teenagers(students)

Virtual space, as a popular media, influences various aspects of people's personal and social lives at micro and macro level. Virtual space is one of the most important sources of changing identities in today's world. The purpose of this study is to examine the challenges and opportunities of social media on the identity of teenagers (students) with a sociological perspective. Documentary method of research was chosen for this study, and books and articles published in this certain field are referred to identify the opportunities and threats of social media on the identity of students. According to the results of this research, the phenomenon of Internet and virtual space is actually a double-edged sword; Meaning, it is both "opportunity" and "threat", both "constructive" and "destructive", and both "developing" the and "capturing" for mind. With proper management, the disadvantages of social media can be reduced and each of its threats can be turned into an opportunity.
