Performance Comparison of GRI ۳.۰ and DRM۱۹ Combustion Mechanisms in MILDCombustion Regime

Combustion is the most important process of releasing the chemical energy of fossil fuels, whose lifetime reaches the discovery of fire by the primitives. With the development of science and technology, new processes are created in the field of combustion, the most important goal of them are to optimize fuel consumption, increasing efficiency, and especially reducing the amount of gaseous pollutants (such as nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide). One of these new technologies is the MILD combustion process, which is based on preheating fuel and air and diluting the oxygen content of the air to produce a proper mixing of the reactants. In the present study, MILD combustion of methane gas is simulated in a lab-scale combustion chamber and its results will be compared in two modes of combustion mechanisms, namely DRM۱۹ (as reduced mechanism) and GRI۳.۰ (as complete mechanism). The results show that at mild combustion regime, both mechanisms have uniform temperature distribution, diluting of oxygen reaches to below ۵% and the amount of NOX and CO pollutants are reduced to below ۱۰ppm. However, in view of solution procedure, DRM۱۹ mechanism has higher accuracy and convergence speed compared to GRI ۳.۰.
