چکیده مقاله:

Background: Silymarin, a flavonolignan from silybum marianum, consumed because of its wonderful hepatoprotective feature. Silymarin in a suitable bioavailability has been used to treat some of liver disorders that the most important of its effectiveness mechanism include antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of silymarin on propofol-induced increase in lipid factor levels in male Wistar rats.Method: Rats were divided into ۴ groups: GpI: control group., received distilled water. GpII: propofol group., received propofol (۴ mg/kg for ۲۱ days., I.P.); GpIII: silymarin group., received silymarin (۱۰۰ mg/kg, gavage for ۲۱ days); GpIV: Pro-silym-group (۴ mg/kg propofol., I.P. and silymarin ۱۰۰ mg/kg., gavage, for ۲۱ days). On the ۲۲nd day, all rats were anaesthetized and plasma collected to estimate AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, Bili-T, TG, Cho, HDL. The liver was removed for investigation of MDA, GPx, GSH, CAT and histopathology study. Results: Silymarin and propofol improved oxidative stress factors and hepatic enzymes. However, administration of propofol significantly increased triglycerides but did not increase cholesterol. Administering silymarin together with propofol had a modulating effect on propofol-induced increase in triglycerides. Conclusion: Propofol and silymarin improve the body's oxidative stress, but due to its lipid structure, propofol can increase triglycerides, which is a warning for patients with high triglycerides that silymarin can be considered as a protective option in this situation.
