Investigating the effect of fertility drugs on breast cancer and ovarian cancer: a systematic review

Introduction and objective: Due to the significant increase in the use of fertility drugs in recent decades, concerns related to the use among them, the risk of getting cancer has also increased. The most common cancer of women is breast cancer and the most deadly of them is cancer. It is the ovary. Based on this, the present study aims to review the studies conducted in the field of fertility drugs and women's cancers have occurred.Method: The current study is a review study. All the articles published during the years ۲۰۱۰ to ۲۰۲۱ were collected from Scapus, Irandoc, Magiran, Google Scholar, SID databases. Comprehensive search with the keywords fertility drugs, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cancer women, human chorionic gonadotropin and clomiphene citrate for Persian articles and their English equivalent for English articles. After reviewing the studies, a total of ۱۷ articles were included in the study.Results: The results of the studies are divided into ۵ categories. Only one study was conducted in ۲۰۱۸. It is believed that these drugs reduce the risk of breast cancer. ۸ Studying the significant relationship between women's cancer and drugs they did not consider fertility, but one of them, despite not Result a significant relationship, predicted that future studies would probably come to this result will find that these drugs have a positive effect on the incidence of cancer. The result of ۳ studies on the positive effect of drugs on the incidence of cancer in women and in ۲ articles, hormonal drugs that cause women's cancer were discussed. In total, ۳ articles out of ۱۷ articles were about the results they had not achieved precision.Conclusion: The results of the studies were contradictory. This may be due to the small sample size and time the follow-up is short or the inability of many studies to properly control possible confounders such as: reasons for infertility.
