A review on the application of Orem’s theory in kidney failure patients

Introduction and objective: Nursing theories are resources that help nurses organize patient information and make decisions for the patient. Kidney diseases are one of the most common chronic diseases that require a lot of care. Orem's theory is a pioneering theory in the field of patient self-care. The purpose of this study is to conduct an integrated review of the application of Orem's theory in the care of kidney patients.Methods: The present study was conducted in ۲۰۲۲ by searching domestic and foreign published articles using five steps of text search, text selection, data evaluation, data extraction and data classification in Google Scholar, Magiran, Pubmed and SID databases. In the initial search, ۸۳ articles were found, and after checking the inclusion criteria, ۱۰ articles were examined.Results: Based on the review of the conducted studies, the use of Orem's self-care model in improving the quality of life, reducing the stress of patients increasing self-esteem and self-efficacy level of hemodialysis and kidney patients is effective.Conclusion: According to the reviews, Orem's self-care model improves the quality of life and increases the self-care ability of clients. And by using and effectively implementing this model, it is possible to help improve the quality of life of clients. Therefore, nurses can increase the self-care capacity and self-efficacy of hemodialysis patients by applying Orem's self-care model.
