Methods of monitoring the performance of embankment dams -a reviews

The nature of the structure of earthen dams is influenced by very key factors and affected by the interaction of the foundation and the fluid over time in an unpredictable and calculated way. Water as a fluid of unknown and very different loads in various physical, chemical and mechanical conditions on the one hand and soil with a combination of all kinds of minerals and particles with diverse physical and chemical conditions in a large volume on the other hand, has made this huge structure very Vulnerable and ready for incalculable and unpredictable events. This volume of soil and water spread in contact with the body and foundation requires design with a high safety factor and targeted periodical evaluation in all construction periods, immediately after the construction and operation stage. In this article, an attempt has been made to examine the factors affecting the increase in the destruction potential of earthen dams and then to present the methods of evaluating and monitoring the performance of earthen dams. This article is written as a review article, by searching in academic articles and journals and citing the researches of researchers all over the world without a case study.
