The technology is so new scientists still haven’t done enoughstudies regarding the health effects of long-term vaping. They could be marginally safer thantobacco, or they could be just another tactic to get a new generation of smokers addicted tonicotine. Because of the significant lack of data, the vaping industry is doing incredibly well.Today, the industry is worth more than a billion dollars, and according to current projections, it ison track to outsell other tobacco products within the next ten years. While notofficially listed as a side effect, investigation into the matter has determined that muscle aches area recognized side effect of vaping. There has been no insight into what is causing the problemexactly, but some theorize the propylene glycol in the vape is metabolized into lactic acid and iscausing pain. If lactic acid is produced as a result of vaping, the muscle pain wouldn’t be asurprise, as studies have also shown lactic acid may be responsible for muscle pain in fibromyalgiapatients. Vaping and intervertebral disc problems nicotine in e-liquids negatively impacts IVDhealth by creating hypoxic environments that degenerate the IVD vasculature and cellular matrix. While studies have demonstrated the inhibitory effects of nicotine use on spinal fusions in animalmodels, the impact of e-cigarette use on spinal fusion operations in human patients is currentlylacking. Our narrative literature review aims to provide comprehensive insight into the impact ofe-cigarette use on occupational Musculoskeletal Health.
