چکیده مقاله:

Background: The World Health Organization has announced that one billion and three hundredmillion people in the world smoke.Research shows that the consumption of these substancesduring pregnancy can have irreparable effects on the mother and the fetus. About six percent ofbabies are born with congenital disorders. Congenital anomaly is any structural disorder thataccompanies a person from birth, or is created in the first month of the fetus's life, which can betreated or not. These abnormalities are caused by genetic defects, chromosomal disorders, micronutrient deficiencies. The purpose of this article is to further investigate the effects ofsmoking on these disorders.Method: For this review, we reviewed articles from the years ۲۰۱۷ to ۲۰۲۲ based on the followingkeywords in PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar databases (result tracking).• Tobacco/smoke• Maternal smoking• Congenital anomaly• Maternal smoking and congenital anomaly• Tobacco/smoke and congenital anomalyWe used Prisma as the basis of our systematic review. Articles were read by two authors and casereport and review studies and case reports were excluded and systematic and meta-analysis usedafter eligibility. The focus of identifying articles to answer question based on the PICO criteria. Results: After collecting articles, abnormalities such as gastroschisis, cleft palate, cardiovascularabnormalities, and nervous system abnormalities were seen in ۸۰ articles that showed congenitalanomalies affected by use of cigarettes and tobacco-related products in mothers who used thesesubstances during pregnancy or before has been associated with a significant increase. Direct useand exposure did not have a significant difference in the result, and this was true for all types ofproducts with smoke and without smoke. Also, factors such as obesity, diabetes and lack of folicacid consumption were seen in mothers, which were prominent risk factors along with smoking. Conclusion: Results show that tobacco consumption has a significant impact on congenitalabnormalities such as neural tube defects (NTDs) and cleft palate, visual and mental problems.Considering the high risk of abnormalities for growth and on the other hand the importance of children's health in society as an important health indicator, we suggest that mothers refrain fromusing tobacco before or during pregnancy, because in addition to the mentioned cases, heart anddigestion diseases are strongly affected by these products
