Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices Towards hookah smoking cession duringCOVID-۱۹ among women: a cross-sectional study in southern Iran

Background: Tobacco use continues to be one of the biggest public health threats. The first stepto control this unsanitary behavior during the COVID-۱۹ pandemic is to be aware of the sideeffects of using hookah on contracting and aggravating the symptoms of COVID-۱۹. It is likelythat people will have a positive attitude towards quitting hookah after raising awareness. In thisresearch, we report the knowledge and attitude of the effects of hookah use on the exacerbation ofsymptoms of Corona and its role in stopping hookah use, as well as the role of some sociodemographicfactors affecting knowledge, attitude and quitting hookah.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from To March ۲, ۲۰۲۱ to December ۲۱, ۲۰۲۰among ۶۵۰ women above ۱۵ years of hookah consumption in Bandar Abbas city. In this research,sampling was done by multi-stage method. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regressions wereused to identify the independent predictors of knowledge, attitude, and practice. Crude odds ratio(COR) was used to identify an association between factors and dependent. SPSS v.۲۰ was used forall analysesResults: ۶۵۰ people entered the final analysis (۹۴% response rate). The mean and standarddeviation of the age of the participants was ۳۲.۸۳±۱۲.۲۸, the age of starting hookah use was۲۱.۳۵±۵.۷۸, the history of years of hookah use was ۱۱.۵۱±۱۱.۵۸, and the number of monthlyhookah consumption before and after the COVID-۱۹ pandemic was ۳۸.۷۵±۴۳.۱۳ and ۲۰.۲۳±۳۲.۳۳,respectively. No history of smoking hookah in family members, use of fruit tobacco alone, highawareness, and positive was significantly related to the participants' good performance.Conclusion: Based on the findings of our research, since most of the people with good knowledgeand attitude still performed poorly, it seems that in addition to considering the importance ofknowledge and attitude on the elimination of hookah unhealthy behavior during the COVID-۱۹pandemic, a set of internal factors and considered an extrovert to successfully quit hookah.
