Background: The harmful effects and harms of cigarette smoke are not hidden from anyone, butdue to focusing on the harm of smoking on smokers, we have neglected the harms of cigarettesmoke on others. A study summarizes the health consequences of involuntary exposure to tobaccosmoke into two major adverse outcomes: first, secondhand smoke causes premature death anddisease in children and adults who do not smoke, and second, children exposed to secondhandsmoke are at risk of developing Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), acute respiratoryinfections, ear problems, and asthma are more severe. Also, smoking by parents causes respiratorysymptoms and slow lung growth in their children. For this reason, this review study has beenconducted with the aim of the impact of secondhand smoke on the health of children as the mostvulnerable group of society.Methods: The present review study is based on the information collected from the articlespublished in the last ten years regarding the study of the harmful effects of cigarette smoke onchildren's health. And the obtained results were analyzed and interpreted.Results: The results of this study showed that about ۱.۲ million people die every year due toexposure to secondhand smoke. ۶.۱% of mothers and ۱۱.۲% of fathers smoke at home. Also,another study showed that ۳۰.۴% of teenagers were exposed to secondhand smoke at home, ۴۴.۲%in public environments, and ۲۳.۲% both indoors and outdoors, which is ۸ to ۲۳ times more thanchildren whose parents or acquaintances do not smoke. Among the ۳۱ reviewed articles, ۶ studieswere aimed at investigating the effect of secondhand smoke on children's respiratory diseases, ۳studies on cardiovascular diseases, ۳ studies on children's developmental disorders, and otherstudies with various purposes, such as the relationship between secondhand smoke and Cancers,psychological problems of children, pregnancy and as a result the health of the fetus and relateddiseases.Conclusions: The present study showed that exposure to secondhand smoke is associated withadverse consequences for children's growth and health. It is essential that smokers, especiallythose who live with children, are aware of the harmful effects of exposure to secondhand smokewith their children, and finally, it is suggested to register a law to reduce or eliminate smoking inthe home, car, or public environments.
