Introduction: Most people are concerned about their physical appearance and that is why theyturn to sports, diets or even high-risk behaviors. Because body image plays an important rolein emotions, it can cause anxiety, stress, and eating disorders, including overeating and stresseating. The aim of this article was to investigate the relationship between attitude and fear ofbody image and body mass with the occurrence of eating disorders in students of ShoushtarUniversity of Medical Sciences.Methods: The study population consisted of ۲۰۰ students (۱۲۸ girls and ۷۲ boys) of ShoushtarFaculty of Medical Sciences who were selected by convenience sampling method. The researchinstruments included Body Image Concern Inventory (BICI), Multidimensional Body–SelfRelations Questionnaire (MBSRQ) and Eating Disorders Questionnaire. The body mass index(BMI) was calculated. The data were analyzed by SPSS ۲۶.Results: Regression analysis showed a positive and significant relationship between bodyimage anxiety and the occurrence of eating disorder behaviors among girls (p=۰.۰۰۲). Therewas a positive and significant relationship between body mass and the incidence of eatingdisorders (p=۰.۰۳۱). There was a positive and significant relationship between body imageanxiety and body mass in both girls and boys (p=۰.۰۰۵). There was no significant relationshipbetween the individual's attitude towards body image and body mass (p=۰.۱۰).Conclusion: appropriate trainings be conducted in colleges to create awareness and preventthe occurrence of eating disorders and also programs should be done so that students cancontrol stress and worries about their body and appearance.
