Diet therapeutics interventions for the treatment of obesity: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

Background: up to now different diet therapeutics interventions were introduced for treatment of obesity. In this study we aimed to compare the diet therapeutics interventions for the treatment of obesity simultaneously.Methods: The major international databases includes Medline (via PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library and Embase were searched using a predesigned search strategy. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that had compared the diet therapy interventions were included. The mean difference (MD) with ۹۵% confidence interval (CI) was used to summarize the effect size in the network meta-analysis. The Ferquentist approach was used for data analysis.Results: Out of ۹۵۳۶ retrieved references ۳۶ RCTs met the eligibility criteria in this review. The included RCTs formed nine independent networks. Based on our results Hypocaloricdiet+MonCam (P-score = ۰.۹۹), Energy restriction, behavior modification + exercise (LED) (P-score = ۰.۹۹), HFCS۲۰+Ex (P-score = ۰.۶۷), catechin-richgreentea(۶۵۰)+inulin (P-score = ۰.۶۸), very low calorie diet (VLCD) (P-score = ۱.۰۰), Normal protein diet + resistance exercise (NPD + RT) (P-score = ۰.۸۰), Low-calorie diets +exercise (Hyc + Ex) (P-score = ۰.۸۵), high-soy-protein low-fat diet (SD) (P-Score= ۰.۷۵), calorie restriction +Behavioral weight loss (Hyc + BWL) (P-score = ۰.۹۹), were the better treatments for weight loss in the networks one to nine respectively.Conclusion: In this NMA we have nine independent networks. It seems, Hypocaloricdiet+MonCam, LED, HFCS۲۰+Ex, catechin-richgreentea +inulin, VLCD, NPD + RT, Hyc + Ex, SD, Hyc + BWL, are the better treatment options for weight loss in in patients with overweight and obesity.
