چکیده مقاله:

The Great Gatsby is one of the most adapted novels into several movies in different decades. Each adaptation has various elements, patterns, and presentations based on cultural and historical backgrounds. When a work is announced adapted, it has overt relationship with other works. Therefore, adaptive works are comparative works. The adaptations could be unique by themselves regarding the visual art and performances, directing, script, music and clothes design. They cannot be considered inferior to books especially literary works because both are pieces of art, the former written and the latter visual in which have their own specific audience. This research is to analyze the significance of adaptation and the narration in The Great Gatsby novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald and the ۲۰۱۳ adaptation of The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann. The similarities and differences in the narration of the novel and the film are investigated through the comparative and adaptation studies. This study reveals how presentation of a story in fiction differs from a movie’s script, and how a plot can be expressed and interpreted individually regarding the time of adapting. The fragmental narration that brings complexity to the novel is replaced with a chronicle narration in the movie to make the events tangible.
