چکیده مقاله:

This study evaluated the microstructure, hardness, and corrosion resistance of weatheringsteel (CORTEN A) and its weld joints by shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) in thesingle-pass and two-pass welding processes. The two-pass SMAW welding process wasapplied to eliminate the lack of penetration defects (LOPs) created in the single-passwelding process. An optical microscope revealed the weld microstructure. MIP softwarepackage calculated the percentages of different phases in the weld microstructure. Theelectrochemical corrosion resistance of the weldments was assessed using thepotentiodynamic polarization technique. The results showed that the weld microstructureevolved in both welding conditions compared to the base metal. The weld microstructureconsisted of Widmanstatten ferrite, acicular ferrite, and intergranular ferrite. Thehardness of the CORTEN A base metal, single-pass, and two-pass welds was ۱۵۵, ۲۰۴,and ۱۹۷ Vickers, respectively. Overall, the weld corrosion resistance decreased comparedwith the base metal under both welding processes.
