چکیده مقاله:

Introduction:Long-term outcomes remain among survivors discharged from the intensive care unit, and patients may experience severe changes as a result of ICU admission, which recent studies have termed post-intensive care syndrome. Post-intensive care syndrome (PICS) is a set of symptoms that indicate cognitive, psychological and physical disorders that affect ICU survivors. Method & Material:This narrative review was done by keywords “Post intensive care syndrome AND Prevention OR Risk factors”, during ۲۰۱۲-۲۰۲۲ thought PubMed, Elsevier, ProQuest, Scopus and Google scholar search engineer in English and Farsi languages. Results:The results show that almost half of ICU survivors experience at least one disorder related to PICS three months after discharge. The major risk factors for PICS include mechanical ventilation and sedation, hypoglycemia, delirium, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. ABCDE bundles shown to reduce the rates of PICS symptoms. Key components of these bundles include early mobilization, sedation vacations, and spontaneous breathing trials. Several preventive methods for PICS, such as minimizing the use of corticosteroids and muscle blockers during hospitalization in ICU, control of pain and delirium, strategies to optimize nutritional intake and early mobilization may improve physical function; and early family engagement may improve the mental health of ICU survivors. Discussion:The term post-intensive care syndrome rather a syndrome is a term to increasing awareness of disorders so more rapid screening for specific disorders shoud be done. However, many survivors suffer significant health care costs and job loss, this indicates the need for intervention and planning to reduce the severity of symptoms.Various methods of non-pharmacological interventions are proposed to control these symptoms.
