The Effect of Video Clip of Nature on Anxiety and Physiological Parameters of Patients Candidate for Gastric Endoscopy: A Clinical Trial Study

Background and aim: Anxiety is a common problem in Patients candidate for gastric endoscopy procedure. This condition can affect level of cooperation of patients and can cause problems in endoscopy process. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of intervention through video clip of nature on the level of anxiety and physiological parameters of Patients candidate for gastric endoscopy.Materials and method: This study was a randomized clinical trial that was performed on ۶۴ Patients candidate for gastric endoscopy for first time in Koosar hospital of Semnan. At first step, demographic information and a six-item Spielberger anxiety scale were completed. Then their pulse and blood pressure were measured and recorded by the same device in a sitting position. For the intervention group, a five-minute video clip of nature was played by tablet and headphones, and for the control group, only routine actions were performed. In the second step, immediately after the intervention for the intervention group and after five minutes for the control group, the anxiety of the samples and pulse and blood pressure were measured and recorded again.Results: The findings showed that the intervention has a significant effect on anxiety (P < ۰.۰۰۱), pulse rate (P = ۰.۰۰۳), systolic blood pressure (P = ۰.۰۴۶) and diastolic blood pressure (P = ۰.۰۴۰) between the two intervention and control groups.Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, video clip of nature could have a significant effect on anxiety and physiological parameters. Therefore, the use of nature audio-video clips can be considered as a measure to reduce the anxiety before gastric endoscopy procedure.
