Background and aim: Determining the appropriate size of maxillary anterior teeth plays an important role in the beauty of dentures and the reconstruction of the smile design. The aim of this study was to investigate the dimensions and morphology of the tooth crown and its relationship with the gingival biotype of maxillary anterior teeth in Semnan.Materials and method: In this cross-sectional observational study, a researcher trained by Williams probe made measurements on the anterior teeth of maxillary patients referred to Semnan Dental School in the age range of ۲۰ to ۳۵ years, such as: crown length measurement (CL) And mesiodistal width (MDW and cervical width (CW) and these measurements were repeated three times and finally averaged and MDW / CL and CW / CL ratios were calculated, then each of the types of central, lateral and canine teeth according to k-means clustering was divided into three forms: square, triangular, and oval. The gums were classified into two categories, thin and thick.Results: ۸۰ patients were female and ۷۰ were male. The mean age of patients was ۲۷.۵ years. The most common dental forms are triangular (۵۱.۷%), oval (۳۷.۱%) and square (۱۱.۲%), respectively, and the most common gingival biotype is thick (۵۹.۳%). The morphology of women's teeth is ۴۶% triangular, ۳۷.۸% oval and ۱۶.۲% square and the morphology of men's teeth is ۵۸.۱% triangular, ۳۶.۴% oval and ۵.۵% square. ۶۰% of women and ۵۸.۶% of men have thick gingival biotype and the rest have thin gingival biotype. There was a significant relationship between gingival biotype and tooth morphology, gender with central and canine morphology and age with gingival biotype, while there was no significant relationship between gender and gingival biotype and age with dental morphology.Conclusion: In general, the findings showed that there is a significant relationship between the morphology of maxillary anterior teeth with gingival biotype, so that the square crown shape is associated with thick and flat gingival biotype and the triangular crown shape is associated with thin and concave gingival biotype.
