چکیده مقاله:

Background: Acrylamide (ACR) is produced in food whenhigh carbohydrate foods prepares at high-temperature (>۱۲۰ºC) processing such as cooking, frying, toas ting, roas ting orbaking. Effects of acrylamide have been shown on the malereproductive sys tem and sperm fertility parameters. To treatof human problems and the pains, medicinal plants have beenconsidered. The wheat sprout (WSP) contains high amount ofvitamins, minerals and phytoes trogens compounds. This s tudyinves tigated the wheat sprout effects on sperm quality in ratsexposed to acrylamide.Materials and Methods: For this purpose, ۲۰ healthy adultmale rats (۲۱۰ ± ۲۰ g) were divided randomly into four groups:Control group without treatment, ACR group received ۵۰ mg/kg/day acrylamide (orally), WSP group received ۲۰۰ mg/kg/day wheat sprout extract (orally), ACR+WSP group received۲۰۰ mg/kg/day wheat sprout extract along with ۵۰ mg/kg/dayacrylamide (orally). After ۲۱ days, the rats were sacrificed usingchloroform and sperm samples were taken of the caudal ofthe epididymis. Sperm total count, motility, viability, and DNAfragmentation as the sperm quality parameters were examined. Results: The results showed that sperm count, motility and viabilitywere decreased significantly following adminis tration ofthe acrylamide (P<۰.۰۵). No significant difference was seen inDNA fragmentation of sperms within the groups. On the contrary, sperm quality parameters were significantly improve bywheat sprout extract (P<۰.۰۵).Conclusion: Results sugges ted that sperm quality in rats canbe improved by wheat sprout extract following adminis trationof acrylamide.
