چکیده مقاله:

Background: Sambucus nigra, commonly known as elderberry(EB), is a member of the family of berries that is rich in antioxidativecompounds and has been noticed for a few years forits potential beneficial effects on the male reproductive sys tem.Materials and Methods: We divided ۳۰ mice into control, hyperthermia, and hyperthermia receiving EB diet (duration = ۳۵days groups). ۴۳ °C water bath for ۳۰ min was used to inducehyperthermia. Thereafter, the mice were sacrificed, and spermparameters analysis was conducted on their sperm samples. Wealso performed immunohis tochemis try (agains t caspase-۳ andTNF-α) his topathology and serum hormone level (for tes tos terone,LH, and FSH) experimentations. Results: Our findings revealed that an EB-containing diet cansignificantly improve both s tereological and sperm parameters, such as the number of Leydig cells, spermatogonia, primaryspermatocyte, and round spermatid. We have also found thatthe level of tes tos terone was improved in the serum of the EBreceiving group. Additionally, the level of expression of caspase-۳ and TNF-α was significantly dropped in the EB receiving group compared to the controls. Conclusion: An EB-containing diet can be recognized as an alternativetherapeutic option for improving the spermatogenesisof azoospermic mice who were exposed to hyperthermia
