چکیده مقاله:

Background: Endometriosis is a gynecological disorder characterizedby the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterinecavity that is associated with chronic pelvic pain, subfertilityand an increased risk of ovarian cancer. The purpose ofthe s tudy was to inves tigate the effect of broccoli extract (BE)alone and in combination with soy isoflavones on endometrialimplants in female rat.Materials and Methods: In this s tudy, endometriosis was inducedsurgically in ۴۰ mature female rats. The rats were dividedinto ۵ groups that were treated by oral gavage for ۶ weeks with۰.۵ ml of saline ۰.۹%/day (control group), BE (۳۰۰۰ mg/kg/day), soy isoflavones (۵۰ mg/kg/day), BE/soy isoflavones (BE۳۰۰۰ mg/kg/day + soy isoflavones ۵۰ mg/kg/day) and dipherelineas s tandard medications (۳ mg/kg) intramuscularly. At theend of treatments, the volume and his topathology of the endometrialimplants were compared among the ۵ groups. Results: The levels of antioxidant markers including Superoxidedismutase (SOD) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) in serumwere also evaluated between the groups. The volume of the implantswith treatment by BE/soy isoflavones were not significantlydifferent from diphereline. The his topathological gradeof endometrial implants in BE/soy isoflavones and dipherelinegroup were significantly decreased comparing to the controlgroup. There was no significant change in the his topathologicalscore in rats treated with BE/soy isoflavones compared todiphereline group. Conclusion: BE in combination with soy isoflavones decreasedthe growth and his topathologic grades of auto-transplanted endometrialimplants. This herbal product may have the potentialto be used as an alternative medication for the treatment of endometriosis.
