Microfluidic methods offer several advantages over their traditionalmacro-scale counterparts by extending the possibilityof biomedical research based on the idea of miniaturization.These miniaturized platforms provide opportunities to manipulatecells and biological processes at the single-cell level anddevelop nature-inspired technologies for diagnos tic and therapeuticapplications. For example, in the context of fertility, microfluidicscan match the geometry of micro-confined regionswithin the female reproductive tract, thus, presenting opportunitiesfor fundamental unders tanding of the even of fertilizationand biomimicry-based selection of sperm that reflect the in vivoprocess. In this talk, I will provide an overview of our workin developing microfluidic technologies for sperm analysis andselection.
