In this paper the effects of foundation flexibility on dynamic analysis of a concrete arch dam are investigated. For this purpose a set of ground motions with different characteristics in acceleration response spectrum were selected and all of them scaled based on almost same identical peak ground acceleration. Karaj concrete arch dam was selected as case study and for considering flexibility of foundation and its effects on dam responses, two various options were supposed for dam-foundation interaction. In the first case foundation rock was modelled as rigid and in the second case foundation rock was simulated as mass-less medium. The behaviour of dam and foundation were express in term of displacement while reservoir was modelled based on Eulerian approach. The seismic performance of arch dam was evaluated using displacements and principal stresses resulted from linear analyses. It was shown that modelling foundation rock as mass-less medium leads to increase results in comparison with rigid foundation.
