A Study on the Types of Linguistic Taboos in Iranian Movies

Abstract. This research investigated the linguistic taboos in twenty Iranian movies. The framework suggested by Andersson and Trudgill (۱۹۹۰) was used in this study. All the three types of classes provided in this framework, i.e., animals, sanctity, and sex and bodily functions were present in this study. In addition, the traces of five more types included death, morality, physical/mental problems, relatives, and unpleasant concepts were also detected in the Iranian cinema. Among all the categories, according to the findings, unpleasant concepts with the frequency of ۴۹.۴۵% proved to be the most commonly uttered type of taboo terms.
