۴-Chlorophenol (۴-CP) as persistent organic pollutant (POP) is listed as one of the top toxicpollutants by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Generally, ۴-CP hasbeen found in the wastewater from different industrial effluents. Therefore, efficientremoval of ۴-CP from wastewater has become one of the main target for researchers inthe area of environmental management. In this research, degradation of ۴-CP throughozonation process was optimized using Response Surface Methodology (RSM).Reaction time, pH, ۴-CP concentration and O۳ flow rate were considered as mainvariables. The results revealed that reaction time and O۳ flow rate have significant effecton ۴-CP removal rate through ozonation process. In contrast, initial concentration of ۴-CP and pH showed less effect of ۴-CP removal. According to RSM model, optimumconditions was observed at time: ۳۰ min, pH: ۱۱, ۴-CP concentration: ۳۵ mg/L andozonation flow rate: ۵ g/h, which maximum ۴-CP removal of ۹۳.۵۲% was achieved.
