Evaluation of the effect of metformin on Breast Cancer treatment

The most common cancer among females worldwide such as Iran ، Turkey is breast cancer. Although the incidence of breast cancer is rising , the mortality rate has decreased due to early diagnosis and good treatment options. The American Cancer Society estimates that one in eight females will develop breast cancer at in their lives. Several studies have indicated that type ۲ diabetes mellitus is a risk factor for the development of several types of cancer, including breast cancer. the association of diabetes and its treatment with breast cancer risk has been receiving increasing attention. Patients with diabetes and breast cancer have up to a ۵۰% higher chance of all-cause mortality than those without diabetes.Recent studies have shown that metformin, a primary anti-diabetic agent, acts as anti-tumor on cancer cells and can be considered as a treatment for breast cancer. Metformin is the first line drug for the management of the type ۲ diabetes mellitus (TDM۲). However, more additional research is needed to confirm the accurate efficacy of metformin treatment for breast cancer and its recurrence.
