چکیده مقاله:

This Paper focuses on numerical and experimental investigation of fracture characterization of ABS polymeric material and also study of the influence of sample’s thickness on the characterization of the material. In most applications fracture happens mode-I (tensile), mode-II (shear), or the combination of shear and tensile modes. By varying the loading angle, a from ۰o to ۹۰o for different thicknesses of samples, pure mode-I, pure mode-II and mixed mode data were obtained experimentally. In this research, by introduction of a new fixture, having perfect symmetry creates the pure plane strain conditions so that unwanted mode-III can be avoided and the existing defects of Arcan fixture have been solved. Using the finite element results, non-dimensional stress intensity factors were applied to the specimen. Based on experimentally measured critical loads, mixed-mode fracture toughness for the polymer determined and the results of various thicknesses have been discussed.
