The effectiveness of Fredrickson’s positive thinking program on the academic resilience and psychological capital of underachieving students. The present study was a quasi-experimental study with pre-posttest and control group design. ۳۰ underachieving students were selected by convenience sampling from girl’s high schools of Karaj, Iran, then were randomly assigned into an experimental group (n=۱۵) and a control group (n=۱۵). The experimental group received ۸ ۲-hour weekly sessions of the Fredrickson’s positive thinking program group training, while the control group received no training. All participants completed the Academic Resilience Scale as well as the Psychological Capital Questionnaire at pre-posttest. Data were analyzed using analysis of covariance and independent t-test and SPSS-۲۲. The results showed that Fredrickson’s positive thinking program group training had a significant effect on academic resilience and psychological capital and its components (self-efficacy, optimism, hope, and resilience) on underachieving students. (P < ۰.۰۰۱). Fredrickson’s positive thinking program group training could enhance academic resilience and psychological capital of underachieving students. Therefore, it is suggested that applying this program, along with others, to enhance academic achievement as well as mental health of underachieving students.
