چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim : Fetal abortion is one of the critical and controversial issues in mostsocieties' scientific, social, and academic communities due to known and unknown reasons.Furthermore, updating our knowledge about isolated bacteria, their antibiotic resistance pattern, and related factors might be essential for designing and implementing appropriate interventions. The current study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Acinetobacter baumannii (A.baumannii) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) among aborted fetus cases and demonstrate theantimicrobial susceptibility of isolates. Methods : For this, ۱۵۳ blood samples were collected percutaneously from the heart blood ofaborted fetuses ۱-۱۵ hours after birth from ۲۰۱۶ to ۲۰۱۷ at the medical laboratory of HazratZeinab, a major referral hospital for obstetrics and gynecology teaching, Shiraz, southwest Iran.Subsequently, the identification of A. baumannii and E. coli and evaluation of antimicrobialsusceptibility testing were performed. Results : Generally, ۵۱ out of ۱۵۳ test cultures were positive: including ۳۴ A. baumannii and ۱۷E. coli isolates. The highest antibiotic resistance was determined against gentamycin and amikacin, while polymyxin B has revealed the highest activity against A. baumannii and E. coli. Conclusion : The present study suggests that since most of the isolated bacteria wereenvironmental isolates with high antibiotic resistance, such bacteria might be considered thecausative agents of abortion in our region. Therefore, it seems that following the general hygieneof pregnant mothers is essential. However, further evidence of a clinical correlation between theisolated bacteria from aborted fetuses and their mothers is required.
