Study of probiotic effect of Bifidobacterium bifidum onCacoII cancer cell line

Background and Aim : Probiotics are live microbial supplements with a wide range beneficial inhuman life.Effect of probiotic microorganisms on human cancer is a controversial issue.Methods : In this work the inhibitory effect of the supernatant of an autochthonous isolate ofbifidobacterium bifidum on the CacoII cells of human colonic carcinoma was investigated.Different concentration of ۱۰۰,۲۰۰, and ۳۰۰ μl/ml of the supernatant of the probiotic bacteriaharvested at ۲۴,۴۸ and ۷۲ hours of bifidobacterial growth in MRS media were applied in to the ۹۶well microplates each containing ۸۰۰۰ cells of CacoII after neutralization of the pH with ۱N NaOHResults : The percentage of cancer cells inhibition observed ranged from ۵۵% to ۸۲% whichobtained from ۱۰۰ μl/ml (۲۴h )and ۳۰۰ μl (۷۲h) supernatants.Conclusion : The inhibitory effect of the probiotic bacteria on human cancer cells seems to beconcentrated dependent and not affected by neutralization.
