چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim : Gastric cancer is the ۵th most common malignancy and the third mostcommon cause of death from cancer worldwide. There is increasing evidence fromepidemiological studies of the association of H. pylori infection and gastric cancer. Also,eradication of H. pylori infection has shown positive effects on decreasing the risk of gastriccancer, but this has become a challenge due to the development of antibiotic resistance in H. pyloriagainst the antibiotics of choice. This research studied antibiotic resistance pattern of H. pyloriassociated with increased risk of gastric cancer.Methods : it was used routine diagnostic isolates of H. pylori that were cultured from single gastric(antral) biopsies. The patients were from consecutive endoscopy lists and were undergoing routineinvestigation at the Institute of Oncology, Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey, for a variety ofupper gastrointestinal tract symptoms. Isolates Identity as H. pylori was confirmed by transportedin a special medium that comprised selective antibiotic supplement, subcultured on Columbia agarbase with defibrinated horse blood at ۳۷ °C under microaerobic conditions, Gram's stain, urease,catalase and oxidase. Used antibiotic discks included metronidazole, clarithromycin, levofloxacin,amoxicillin, tetracycline, furazolidone, and rifabutin.Results : During ۴ months a total of ۱۵ H. pylori isolates meeting the inclusion criteria wereidentified. Rates of H. pylori antibiotic resistance were ۴۶.۶۷% for metronidazole, ۲۰% forclarithromycin, ۲۰% for levofloxacin, and ۱۴.۶۷% for amoxicillin, ۱۱.۷۰% for tetracycline,۱۴.۶۷% for furazolidon and ۶.۶۷% for rifabutin.Conclusion : Gastric cancer is a highly lethal disease and H. pylori as a risk factor for thismalignancy is extremely common. Monitoring of resistance to antimicrobial agents is importantfor H. pylori infections therapy in medical practice. Resistance to antimicrobial agents creates atrisk H. pylori eradication in the world.
