چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare but invasive skin cancer thatoccurs in about ۳ out of every ۱,۰۰۰,۰۰۰ population. Factors involved in the development of MCCcontain the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV or MCV), a weakened immune system, andexposure to ultraviolet light. Merkel cell carcinoma usually occurs in the head, neck, limbs, perianal area, and eyelids. It is common in people over the age of ۶۰, whites, and men. MCC isless common in children. Methods : MCCis a rare type of skin cancer, with an incidence of only ۰.۷ per ۱۰۰,۰۰۰ in theUnited States in ۲۰۱۳. Since ۲۰۰۵, about ۲,۵۰۰ new MCCs have been newly diagnosed each yearin the United States, with about ۶۰,۰۰۰ malignant melanomas and more than ۱ million nonmelanomaskin cancers. Like melanoma, the incidence of MCC is increasing rapidly in the UnitedStates. Results : Globally, MCCs are most commonly found in areas of increasing sun exposure. Australiahas the highest incidence of MCC, but the incidence of MCV-positive MCC is lower than in othercountries. Conclusion : Since ۲۰۰۶, other primary cancers have been known to significantly increase the riskof MCC, especially in patients with previous multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and malignant melanoma.
