چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim : Introduction Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ismajor cause of nosocomial and community acquired infections and represent a significant burdenon the healthcare system. The formation of biofilm, decreases the susceptibility to antimicrobialsand immune defence, making these infections difficult to eradicate. Zingerone (the activeingredient of ginger root) is a nontoxic and inexpensive compound with varied pharmacologicalactivities. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of antibacterial and antibiofilm activitiesof Zingerone and Niosome containing Zingerone, against pre- formed biofilm of MRSA isolates, isolated from diabetic ulcers. Methods : Materials & Methods About ۶۲ MRSA isolates were collected from patients withdiabetic ulcers who were referred to Loghman Hospital of Tehran, Iran. Niosome containingZingerone were synthetized using thin layer hydration method and were characterized using Xraydiffraction, Zetapotential measurement and SEM. The effect of the Zingerone and Niosomecontaining Zingerone was evaluated against one, three and five day old biofilm of MRSA isolatesusing Crystal violet method. Results : Results The round-shaped Niosome containing Zingerone had a diameter of ۱۹۶.۱ nmand a -۳۷.۳ mV zeta potential. Zingerone removed one, three and five day old biofilms of MRSAat the concentrations of ۱۰۰۰ μg/mL, ۱۰۰۰ μg/mL and ۲۰۰۰ μg/mL while the Niosome containingZingerone removed ۱, ۳ and ۵ day old biofilms at the concentration of ۲۵۰ μg/mL, ۲۵۰ μg/mL and۵۰۰ μg/mL.Conclusion : Conclusion Niosomes containing Zingerone is a promising treatment to combatMRSA and its Biofilms.
