The evaluation of IRSp۵۳ expression in colon cancer patients

Backgrounds: Colon cancer is the fourth most common cancer, with more than ۵۵۰,۰۰۰associated deaths each year. This cancer is the third most common cancer in Iranian men and thefourth most common in Iranian women. This disease is kind of malignant tumor arising from theinner wall of the colon. Treatment for colon cancer usually includes surgery, radiation therapy,and chemotherapy. In this regard, the identifying new biomarkers or new targets in cancertherapy are considered to be interested for researchers. One of the significant proteins in cellmotility, metastasis and invasion is IRSp۵۳. IRSp۵۳ is a key regulator of filopodia formation forcell motility which couples Rho GTPase and kinase signaling pathways with actin cytoskeletonremodeling and membrane tubulation. Implication of its inverse BAR (I-BAR) and otherdomains in tumor cell growth/ cell motility was shown.Materials and Methods: In this study, a total of ۳۰ tissue samples from ۳۰ colon cancer patientsand ۳۰ healthy controls were collected to evaluate expression of IRSp۵۳ by using quantitativereal-time PCR (qRT-PCR).Results: Based on our results, we found that IRSp۵۳ expression is a potential gene in diagnoseof colon cancer. However, the more experiments will be required to find the molecularmechanism(s) of involvement of IRSp۵۳ in colon cancer.Conclusion: IRSp۵۳ sounds to be a potential target in cancer therapy.
