The effect of mixing on two different quenching media, sodium chloride salt solution in water and emulsion of cutting oil in water, on structure and mechanical properties of AISI 4140 steel

AISI 4140 steel was heat-treated with quench-temperd cycle. The effect of different percentage of mixing concentration on structure and mechanical properties, salt solution of sodium chloride in water and emulsion of cutting oil in water, were studied. The result show that the percentage of 30% sodium chloride salt solution or supersaturated of NaCl in water, that produces salt slag, have best mechanical properties of hardness, ultimate tensile strength and good elongation against cutting oil and water emulsion
