Comparison effect of sodiumvalparate versus carbamazepine on the renal function of epileptic children in Bandarabbas koodakan hospital in ۲۰۱۷ - ۲۰۱۸

Introduction: Kidney is a multifunctional organ and antiepileptic drug have several side effects, one of them is renal impairment, The aim of this study was to compare the effect of sodium valproate and carbamazepine on kidney function in children with epilepsy. Methods: ۸۰ children (۴۰ sodium valproate and ۴۰ carbamazepine) aged between۲month and ۱۴ y.o were participated, patients who use antiepileptic in past ۶ month continuously were included, we take from them sample for uruine analysis, urine NAG,Na, K, Cr, Ca, Ph, Glu, Protein and serum level of Na, K, BUN, Cr, Ca, Ph, ALKP, VBG. Results: The mean age of children was ۷.۴۳+۳.۳۳ y.o, ۵۸ childs (۷۲.۵%) was mal and ۲۲(۲۷.۵%) of the was female. ۱۲ person (۱۵%) has positive familial hx, The average duration of disease and drug consumption was ۳۴.۶۵+۱۱ month and ۲۴.۸۵+۹.۱۸ month,the mean NAG urine level was significantly different between two group (P-value<۰.۰۱), and it is more highest in patient with sodium valproate. Conclusion: In this study was shown that urinary NAG increased with antiepileptic drug and this increase with sodium valproate is more than carbamazepine, this mean this drug has renal impairment side effects.
