چکیده مقاله:
Stem cells are a unique undifferentiated population that has manycapabilities, including cell differentiation and self-renewal. Today, withthe recognition of stem cells and their characteristics, medical disciplinespay special attention to stem cells. In this review article, fourinternational databases (Medline/PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, andGoogle Scholar) and two national databases (Scientific InformationDatabase and MagIran) were searched in ۲۰۲۱. Thereafter, Persian andEnglish papers referring to the Stem cells in plastic surgery wereincluded. The reviewed studies demonstrate promising results, withfavorable outcomes and minimal complications in the cited cases. Inparticular, adipose tissue-derived stem cell (ADSC) transplants appear toprovide effective treatment options for bony and soft tissue defects, andnon-healing wounds. ADSCs have also been shown to be useful inaesthetic surgery.Further research involving both the basic and clinical science aspects ofstem cell therapies is warranted. In particular, the mechanism of action ofstem cells, their interactions with the surrounding microenvironment, andtheir long-term fate require further elucidation. Larger randomized trialsare also necessary to demonstrate the continued safety of transplantedstem cells as well as the efficacy of cellular therapies in comparison tothe current standards of care.
