چکیده مقاله:

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a particularly aggressive andhighly heterogenic subtype of breast cancer that accounts for ۱۵% to ۲۰%of breast cancer cases and is characterized by the absence of estrogen,progesterone, and human epidermal growth factor ۲ receptors. Althoughthese patients have a better response to neoadjuvant therapy than othersubtypes of breast cancer, those patients with residual disease, have a verypoor prognosis with a higher probability of relapse and lower overallsurvival in the first years after diagnosis. Therefore, the development ofnew TNBC treatment strategies has become a crucial clinical necessity.Targeted therapy is one of the interesting strategies that recently isdeveloped for cancer treatment. The ongoing researches focused onnoncoding RNAs as part of these therapeutic targets. Growing evidencesuggests that circRNAs exert a critical role in tumorigenesis and cancerprogression. The roles of circRNAs as the competing endogenous RNAs(ceRNAs) to sponge microRNAs (miRNAs) and proteins. several studiesrevealed that circRNAs can act as prognostic biomarkers and therapeutictargets in TNBC. For example, CircPLK۱, circAGFG۱, circ-ERBB۲, andcircIFI۳۰ were significantly upregulated in TNBC and associated withpoor survivals. By knocking down these circRNAs, the inhibition of cancercell growth and regression of metastasis and invasion was observed in cellcultures. The identification of these types of biomarkers can help guidetreatment decisions in TNBC. Understanding the mechanisms that drivecancer growth and metastasis is key to the design of novel therapeuticstrategies to help prevent the development of metastatic disease and,finally, to improve survival in this patient population.
