The role of stem cells in pediatric leukemia

One of the salient features of stem cells is their ability to regeneratethemselves. This feature is also present in tumor cells and suggests theoriesabout the association of stem cells with carcinogens. Leukemias are themost common malignant neoplasms in children. The exact cause of canceris not known, but some studies have shown some factors to be associatedwith the disease. In this study, we investigated some of the factors that causeleukemia in children. The study is a review, using relevant information fromPub med, Scopus, Google Scholer databases. Data analysis was performedqualitatively. The common feature of stem cells with carcinogenesisproposes two theories about their relationship: the first is that the ability toself-renew provides ample opportunity for carcinogenic changes, and thesecond is that changes in regulation Self-renewal is a direct cause ofcarcinogenesis. In leukemias, genetic disorders in a hematopoietic cell causeclonal proliferation of cells. The progenitors of these cells are superior toother normal cells in terms of growth, which is due to increasedproliferation, decreased spontaneous apoptosis, or both. Conclusion anddiscussion; According to the results, the effective factors in causing thedisease can be genetic and environmental factors, and awareness of this canbe effective in prevention.
