Phytochemical composition profile of Scutellaria bornmuelleri methanolic extract using GC-MS analysiss

Background and aims: Scutellaria bornmuelleri Hausskn. ex Bornm. ssp. mianensis Rech.f is one of the species of Scutellaria genus, Lamiaceae, that have long been used in traditional medicine. The aim of this study was to analyze the methanol extract of aerial parts of the plant.Methods: Chemical composition of methanol extract of S. bornmuelleri aerial parts was determined using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).Results: A total of ۱۱۳ compounds were identified in the methanol extract of S. bornmuelleri shoot. The main compounds were organic acids (۲۳.۶۴۹%), aldehydes (۱۴.۵۱۶%), ketones (۱۱.۳۵۳%), alcohols (۵.۴۳۹%), carbohydrates (۳.۸۵%), methyl esters (۳.۷۱۳%), sugars (۱.۹۵۳%), acetates (۱.۹۳۳%), terpenes (۲.۵۲۲%), metal related compounds (۱.۲۲۹%), amides (۱.۱۶۹%) and other compounds (۹.۴۲۳%). Pentacosane (۱.۰۲۱%) was identified as the main carbohydrate, n-hexadecanoic acid (۴.۱%) as the major acid, ۵-hydroxymethylfurfural (۱۰.۰۶۳%) as the main aldehyde, ۴H-Pyran-۴-one, ۲,۳-dihydro-۳,۵-di hydroxy-۶-methyl- (۲.۲۸۹%) as the main ketone, syringol (۲.۳۹۵) as the main alcohol, phytol (۰.۶۶%) as the main terpene, isopropyl acetate (۰.۷۲۸%) as the main acetate, propanoic acid, ۲-oxo-, methyl ester (۱.۲۹۸%) as the main methyl ester, ۹-octadecenamide, (Z)- (۰.۶۸۵%) as the main amide, d-glycero-d-ido-heptose (۰.۵۳۲%) as the main sugar, and (۴H)۱,۳,۲-dioxaborin, ۴-ethenyl-۴, ۶-diethyl-۵-(۱-methylethyl)- (۰.۵۱۴%) as the main metal related compound.Conclusion: The presence of different compounds with known bioactivities can make this plant a suitable medicinal plant for supplementary medication for various diseases.
