The effect of social support on the mental health of physical education teachers during the outbreak of Covid-۱۹ disease

Many factors affect the mental health of physical education teachers whose job in the world is considered as one of the most stressful jobs. The prevalence and incidence of Covid-۱۹ disease is currently one of the most serious threats to human mental and physical health.The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of social support on the mental health of physical education teachers during the outbreak of Covid-۱۹ disease.This research was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational. The statistical population consisted of all contract and formal physical education teachers in Darab city in the academic year ۱۴۰۱-۱۴۰۰ (۱۱۸ people). The sample size was considered equal to the population size and sampling was total. For data collection, used two questionnaires of social support of Zimet et al(۱۹۸۸) with ۳ dimensions of support of family, friends and others and Goldberg (۱۹۷۳) mental health questionnaire consisting of ۴ components of physical symptoms, anxiety symptoms, social dysfunction and Depression. Validity was confirmed by experts and their reliability was confirmed by Cronbach s alpha. Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data.The results showed that the mean of mental health and social support of physical education teachers was higher than the standard. Pearson correlation coefficient between social support and mental health was significant (r = ۰.۵۱, sig <۰.۰۱).The results of the present study also show that by receiving the support of friends, family and officials and paying attention to the values of teachers in these critical situations, their level of mental health has improved and this can increase teachers motivation to Performing the role of a teacher. Therefore, in order to increase the level of perceived social support for teachers, education officials should enter into contracts with some psychologists and physicians specializing in the field of coronavirus in the city so that teachers can refer to them free of charge or at a lower cost.
