Prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and postural abnormalities in car repairmen and its relationship with work experience and body mass index

Proper posture, is an important and influential factor in assessing people s health. Therefore, maintaining posture in inappropriate working conditions for a long time leads to the occurrence of musculoskeletal disorders and postural abnormalities in the body.Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and postural abnormalities in car repairmen and its relationship with work experience and body mass index.In this study, ۶۰ car repairmen from Tehran and Alborz provinces with more than ۱ year of experience were evaluated. The Nordic questionnaire was used to determine the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and the New York test with photography was used to determine postural abnormalities. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS ۲۲.The results showed that forward head postural abnormalities (۷۵%), Torticollis (۷۳.۳%) and Uneven pelvis (۶۶.۷%) respectively had the highest prevalence, and The lowest prevalence was related to abnormalities scoliosis and chest slightly depressed (۳.۳%). Also, musculoskeletal disorders in the lumbar area (۵۶.۷%), upper back and knee (۳۶.۷%) are the most common disorders and the lowest disorders are related to the ankles (۱۱.۷%) in car repairmen. A significant relationship was found between work experience and body mass index with postural abnormalities and musculoskeletal disorders.The results of the study show that Increase working hours, type of work activity, especially standing and sitting constantly and undesirable posture during work are among the factors affecting the rate of postural disorders and abnormalities caused by work in car repairmen.
