Ankle sprain is one of the common musculoskeletal injuries in volleyball players, which if left untreated can lead to long-term inactivity and impose economic costs for treatment. This injury is often caused by a decrease in the accuracy of the sensory receptors, resulting in a loss of balance. Since the modified FIFA ۱۱+ protocol has been effective in reducing ankle injuries in previous studies, the present study investigates the effect of the modified six week FIFA ۱۱+ protocol on anterior/posterior and internal/external ankle balance in adolescent male volleyball players.Twenty-four male volleyball players (ages ۱۴-۱۸) were selected from the volleyball teams and randomly divided into experimental (n=۱۲) and control (n=۱۲) groups. During the pre-test, internal/external and anterior/posterior ankle balance were measured in two groups by Biodex balance system. Then experimental group performed FIFA ۱۱+ modified training sessions for six week. The control group also did their routine exercises. Subjects were re-examined to evaluate the changes. ANCOVA test was used to analyze the data.The results showed that six week of FIFA ۱۱+ modified warm-up training had a positive effect on the internal/external balance of the ankle in adolescent male volleyball players (P = ۰.۰۰۷) (E.S = ۰.۱۹۴). The anterior /posterior balance of the ankle also improved after these exercises (P = ۰.۰۳۶) (E.S = ۰.۲۹۸).According to the results, FIFA ۱۱+ modified warm-up training improve the anterior/posterior and internal/external ankle balance in volleyball players, so these exercises can be used to prevent ankle injury and also improve ankle balance in volleyball players.
